For those who care about what they ingest, will scan the ingredients label of manufactured foods they’re about to buy. Many will search for keywords such as sugar or fat. Most think they know what’s bad for them. Realize that there’s a variety of ingredients which are listed, which may be more hazardous. So it becomes key to know what they are, especially if one has an existing health condition that could be triggered. All that’s required by the manufacturers, is listing the ingredients along with it’s quantity, this in relation to the other ingredients. The issue becomes, what’s not explained are their health risks, so know what to look out for.
7. Potassium Bromate
Although this particular additive has been banned in most countries, it’s still used in the United States. It’s estimated that 82% percent of mass produced bread brands include potassium bromate. What it does, is it helps in reinforcing the bread dough, making it appear fluffier.
Potassium Bromate is an additive, which has been linked to a variety of major health issues, when tested at the clinical level. Some experts claim however, it only becomes an issue if the bread isn’t baked properly, as what bromate tends to do, is dissolve during the baking process.
6. Food Coloring
Chemical food coloring is used to give bland plain looking food, a brilliant color. What’s thought is this additive has a negative effect when it comes to ones health. What’s also known, is that certain colors can be more harmful than others, such as Blue 2, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 3, and Red 40 labelled food coloring.
The use of chemical food coloring has been banned in certain countries, as some brands are known to contain benzene, which is an extract from gasoline, which can be carcinogenic. Other brands are known to contain metals, which leads to organ toxicity. So if the food item contains abnormal coloring, then it’s best to avoid it, especially candy.
5. Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
What’s commonly agreed upon by most health experts, is that this particular preservative, can cause potentially serious health issues. This has however been approved by the FDA, because the key purpose it serves, is it helps one avoid getting food poisoning, which overrules it’s potentially detrimental risks.
Butylated Hydroxyanisole is included in hundreds of common favorite foods, everything from cereal to ice cream. It’s danger and hazard, is that it’s usually labelled differently, such as BHA, which appears harmless. BHA is known to seriously disrupt ones hormones.
