Liam Neeson has demonstrated that he has appeal, as well as an aptitude for appearing in action type of movies, as he played an avenging dad in the surprisingly popular movie Taken. He obviously has a passion for one word titled flicks, as his new movie, Unknown is obviously hoping to capitalize on the same type of ‘solo’ hero premise.
While Liam Neeson is in Berlin attending a bio tech conference, he playing Dr. Martin Harris, is almost killed in a freakish car accident. He wakes up four days later and has no memory of the accident. He gets out of hospital, returns to his hotel, to discover his identity has been stolen by another man. To top it off, his wife doesn’t recognize him. January Jones as his wife brings it as her traditional role as an ice cold trophy wife, (Hello, Mad Men.) So enlisting the help of a female cab driver who happened to saved his life, he attempts to piece together what happened, leading to yet more questions.

The locations in Europe are spectacular, with terrific actors from Germany, who does not get enough face time. Director Jaume Collet-Serra makes this movie like it was just thrown together, but that just may be the appeal. Sure the script may be a little thin, as the American protagonist runs around in a panic in Europe, but you have to enjoy the movie’s pseudo scientific twist at the end.
